IP Address Passed to VM Only on Some Networks

Hello,

Unfortunately, I cannot currently work out of my home as there is construction going on and starbucks wifi is unreliable. With both of those networks, I'm able to use the bridge adapter and pass the IP address the DHCP server assigned from the host to the guest VM.

A local business center is where I've been able to get reliable wifi. However, with the business center network, the ip address is not being passed to the VM. Please see attached screenshot No_IP_Address.

Port forwarding only partially works for my needs. The bridged adapter, when working, allows me to use Windows 7 client tools to connect to the guest machine. Using NAT networking with port forwarding does not appear to allow this. I received a connection error when trying to connect this way using a Windows tool Microsoft ODBC Administrator.

Let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks for your help.

The host and guest can always communicate with the host-only adapter. Add NAT as second adapter for the Internet in the guest when available.

Thanks, do you have any good reference links on how to configure the NAT portion in the guest where virtualbox is running. I'm running Oracle Linux release 5.9. Thanks.

Although there isn't a lot that you need to do just to get to the Internet. It should just happen, as long as the host is connected.
