USB For 4.3.10 and Ubuntu 12.0.4 To Use iTunes and iPod
USB For 4.3.10 and Ubuntu 12.0.4 To Use iTunes and iPod
I've installed VBox 4.3.10 on a Gateway laptop and I am running Ubuntu 12.0.4. I installed Vista Home Premium for VBox use since I would like to use iTunes for my iPod. It is not recognizing the iPod Touch Gen 4 32GB. My Ubuntu sees it no problem but Vista will not. I have installed the extention pack and checked off USB 2.0. I know the USB will work in Vista as my wireless mouse uses a USB port anf it's usable in Vista. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jim

I believe you need to create a USB filter for the iPod.

You need to add your user name to the vboxusers group on the host.
This will require you to log off and back on for permission changes to take effect.
A filter should not be needed on a Linux host but you can if you like.

Yup. The USB device should be accessible in the device section and has always worked in Linux. Not so much in Windows or Macs though.

can't resist a little dig huh?
it might work better if they concentrated on making VirtualBox work with them a little better.

No digs louis. Just the facts.
Linux provides no issues like closed source so it is easier to write code for it. That and Windows and Macs change things that are not documented making it harder for anyone to write code for.

I don't think it's vboxuser but you could try that. otherwise Perry or someone wil have to help. I'm not using a Linux host.

Re: USB For 4.3.10 and Ubuntu 12.0.4 To Use iTunes and iPod
Actually you need to do this.
In a host terminal run this:
Replace <your username> with the name you use to log in. Type your user password when prompted.
Be sure to log off and back in to finalize the change in permissions
In a host terminal run this:
Code: Select all
sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your username>Be sure to log off and back in to finalize the change in permissions

Re: USB For 4.3.10 and Ubuntu 12.0.4 To Use iTunes and iPod
thanks Perry. I don't have to use that syntax in while in a Ubuntu guest. sorry for the confusion. I do have to use that syntax while in a Fedora guest however.
