partial display problem

I'm running VB ver 4.3.10 on a Windows 7 PC host. This particular guest is XP and is fully patched and running the 4.3.10 additions.
A couple of weeks ago, the right 45+% of the display, in a maximized window, started showing no background image, like on the left 50+%. If I un-maximize the window, the exact same line of 'blankness' stays put unless I make the window narrow enough that it's off the screen. When in maximized mode, which is normal for my use, I can drag icons into the right portion and they appear fine. But when I drag them back, the display now shows them in both places, the right side doesn't get updated. If I drag a small program window FULLY into the right portion, drop it, then drag it back into the left portion, it updates after it leaves AND shows the background image piece that should be there(just the portion that was covered by the program window). If it's not FULLY in the right portion (straddles or touches the line), the part in the right portion doesn't update, but the left part does. This is all consistent and very re-producible. This did NOT start when I upgraded to 4.3.10, but after.
Today, I re-installed the guest additions and rebooted. No change. I un-installed guest additions and rebooted, installed guest additions again and rebooted. No change.
My second XP guest is not having this problem. My Windows 7 guest is not having this problem. My three Linux guests are not having this problem.
Any suggestions for fixing or further troubleshooting?
