Guest Additions available screen resolutions

Hi,
I'm just starting out on using VM's so apologies if this query has been answered elsewhere. (I have been trawling the posts)
I've got my Win XP guest running perfectly on my 1920x1080 screen and now want to try something else.
I've got an old computer game that offers a limited set of the screen resolutions it finds available.
On my "real" pc it can't run at 1920x1080 but does run at the lower 16:9 aspect ratio of 1280x720 and then scales up to full screen.
Is it possible to add the 1280x720 resolution option to the modes list in the virtual(?) graphics adapter?
