VMDK: error writing extent header

Post by micklskot »

Host OS is Windows 8.1
Guest OS is Windows XP SP3
Virtualbox 4.3.10 r93012

Windows XP guest boots up just fine.
I can attach my usb for my printer with no issues.
I cannot attach my usb hard drive which is a WD MyBook. I am using two vmdk files with plenty of space.
- IDE Primary Master
- IDE Primary Slave
When I hover my mouse over the usb for the WD drive, I see 'busy' and when I connect it changes to 'captured', however, I get a blue screen of death and has output, but it scrolls off where I
cannot see it.
I then get a black screen that states, "Fatal: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted."
I then have to close it out and power off the Windows XP guest OS.

I am also seeing: Error ID: DrvVD

I have looked around on the web for any issues related to this, but didn't find a procedure of fix for it. I do not believe my vmdk files are both corrupted. I am getting the same blue screen with .vdi and .vdmk files.

If anyone could assist with this, I would appreciate it.
