Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac host

I am trying to install Windows 8.1 Pro (_not_ the preview) on a Mac Mavericks host.

I downloaded the ISO through another VM with the Windows install tool.

I create a new VM:
* Windows 8.1 64-bit
* 25gb dynamic virtual drive
* Set to 4gb of RAM
* Mount Windows.iso

* The installer begins, I enter my serial number.
* I choose the custom install
* Get an error: Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart installation. Error code: 0x8007025D.

I've tried finding a solution, but the only things I can find on the Web relate to some older issue surrounding Windows 8.1 Preview.

most likely you downloaded the upgrade which means you need something on the guest to upgrade from.

That's what I was afraid of. I haven't used Windows in about a decade, so I can see this being the case. I'll look into it, thank you for the response!
