Deactivation of NIC at host

I need just a guest doing NAT so that internet can be browsed from the guest. Does this need the "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" NIC activated or may I deactivate it?
Thanks.

NAT does not require the host-only adapter. As implied by the name, the host-only adapter is only used by host-only networking mode.

Thank you for confirming my impression. I could not find any explicit reference in the manual -just the nic name ...
Now I am tempted to use the *NdisDeviceType trick ...

I wonder why VB installation installs this NIC and set ups it active even in many users will not be using it; perhaps this could be done when a user selects to use host-only networking with a guest ...

Thanks again.

When you install VirtualBox you are given a list of optional components and you can decide which ones you want.

If you do not want the Host Only (or any other) option, do not install it.
