XP Box has gone back in time ...

Post by davidbutt1 »

I have two clients running XP under OSX and in general they are very stable.

My second client has now experienced a situation whereby his VM seems to have gone back in time. As if he had chosen an earlier snapshot butt I don't believe he has.

My first client has had this happen three times butt as a less skilled operator I've assumed they were to blame ...

Have search for an explanation with no luck

Would love any feedback ...

thanx

Well are they using Windows Restore while in their guests? that would do it. They most likely shouldn't be using snapshots at all.

This has come up before. First off, if it isn't snapshots then VirtualBox has no other mechanism for remembering a past state of a disk. That leaves a host OS file history mechanism. A Mac expert will have to fill in the blanks.

Unless they are using Time Machine for backups and are restoring back to an earlier date, same as if you did a Windows restore for an earlier date, there is nothing I can imagine that would cause it that is OSX specific.

Thanx to all

I strongly suspect human intervention but am unable to prove it

The fact that no-one else see's this type of issue leaves me comfortable knowing it probably is a human issue and not a VB issue ...

thanx again
