Hi,
I am trying to share folders between two Windows XP guests (the hsot is Windows 7). I have tried everything I can think of, workgroup is the same on all machines, tried turning firewall off, etc... Each guest machine can see its own share, but this is not visible from the other machine. Can this be done or am I missing something?
Thanks

What networking mode are you using? Basically, you must not use NAT. If a LAN router is present you can use bridged+DHCP, otherwise it has to be host-only. As a last resort you could use bridged+ static addressing.

Ah, I'm using NAT!
I'll have a look around... Thanks.

I assume you're aware that you could share a host folder without worrying about network modes, i.e. I assume you're testing some kind of network setup.

Yes, but I need to share guest to guest not hist to guest (or am I missing something?).

I don't know that you're missing anything, I just don't understand why you are purposely avoiding what is by far the simplest method, i.e. a shared host folder configured in the VM settings "Shared Folders".
Re: Shared folders Win XP Guest to Win XP Guest
Hi, sorry for delay in responding.
OK, what I am trying to do is as follows:
As mentioned, Host is Windows 7 Pro, both guests are Windows XP Pro.
On one of the guests I have an FTP server. On this guest I want to share a folder so that it is available on guest 2 as a mapped drive.
I currently use NAT mode, but am due to change to Bridged Adaptor. Will this make a difference?
Thanks.

Indeed it will. But if all you want to do is communicate between the guests, why not use an internal network?

You also can't have had the FTP Server working behind a NAT network, so I take it you never got very far with this idea.
I take it you must some outside sources to upload files to the FTP server, and you want the files to be available to a second VM. To do that I would have the FTP server VM use bridged to attach to a host NIC (you can't use local networking). I would have the FTP server store incoming files in a host shared folder, or the VM could of course make available a true network share.
If using a host shared folder then the second VM could access that using the GA shared folders feature. This VM wouldn't need a network interface at all. Or, it could be made a member of the same network as the first VM.
You should have not given a reason why the more complicated setup is more desirable for you.
