My system restore points are getting deleted on my Win7 Host

Hello folks,

I'm new to this forum and new to using the VirtualBox program, been only doing this for a week or so. I figured out how to get Win7 installed as a guest. My 64bit host has Windows 7. The VirtualBox version is 4.3.1.0.

Does anybody know why my system restore point keeps disappearing? I'd create one before installing some program that I normally would do on my host system so I can test it out and a day or so later, I'd bring up system restore and my previously saved restore points are gone! Not sure what could be causing this so I have to ask in hopes someone has a solution.

I need to create restore points to fall back on if something went wrong during the install of some program or game.

Does anyone how to fix this issue?

Thanks for your reply loukingjr. I pegged it as a VirtualBox question because in the 100+ times that I've installed XP and Windows 7 over the years, not once have the restore points ever disappeared on me.

It was only when I installed Windows 7 in this VirtualBox program that suddenly this happened. I'm new to creating virtual machines so what else was I supposed to think? There has to be some kind of connection though. I also cloned the Windows 7 install to have it for a backup and there again, with the clone, the restore points are also disappearing. That says it's a Virtualbox issue to me but what do I know.

I'll do the google search and see what I can come up with. Thanks again.

I might've figured out why they kept disappearing. I found out that the storage for restore points was only at 1% so I moved it up to 10% (2.49GB's) so that more of them can be stored.

When I created the virtual disk size for this Win7 install, I gave it the default 25GB's of space and 6GB's of memory (I have 16GB's on my host so plenty to spare for VM's). Since I forgot about the pagefile.sys being created to the same size as the RAM, I reduced the size of it from 6GB's to 512MB's to free up disk space to allow for more restore points to be stored and not get removed. I should just disable sleep mode since it's highly unlikely I'll ever put the Guest OS to sleep, I'd put the Host OS to sleep instead.

Just thought to update this in case someone else has the same problem I did and needs a solution. At least I think this is a solution, it will be a few days to find out for sure (when I see no more restore points have been removed) but I think this will do the trick.

Now on to figuring out how to increase the size of this virtual machine, if it's even possible, guess I'll have to create a new thread for that one.

Cool beans! Thanks for the link, loukingjr. I haven't started a new thread yet because I am still trying to figure out how to move my virtual machines from my SSD to my 2TB HDD. As soon as I can successfully get that issue resolved, then I'll want to make them bigger. I wish I knew then what I know now, I would've saved myself a whole lot of time and had them created on the HDD instead. Oh well, live and learn.
