X64 OS not a choice

I've done some searching around, but I just wanted to get confirmation on this...

What do I need in order to choose an x64 OS in Virtual Box? VT-X? VT-D? Is the AMD equivalent AMD-V? And if I need a new motherboard, where would I search to see if it supports these technologies? Right now I have a Q8300 and an ASUS P5Q3. According to ASUS this board does not support VT-X. I ran the Intel check tool, but I'm not sure if the board has something to do with it telling me there's no VT-X support.

OS is Server 2012.

The requirements are described in the user manual. For Intel it's VT-x and for AMD it's indeed AMD-V but all recent AMD chips have this feature. Sometimes the feature is available but disabled in the BIOS so you might check your BIOS settings first.

You must also make sure that nothing else is already using VT-x/AMD-v. On a Win2k12 host that means: make sure Hyper-v is disabled.
