Windows 2008 r2 64-bit virtualization
Posted: 4. Apr 2014, 01:52
Hello,
I wasn't sure if this should be put in another topic, as I found other similar ones (but not exactly the same). My apologies if I should have posted there.
Anyway, I'm having issues with 64 bit virtualization being recognized in VirtualBox that I have not been able to solve after hours of research. All versions I see (Linux or Windows) for virtualbox show only 32 bit. One of the errors I get, as I would suspect is 'this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for you CPU'.
I also noticed the bottom right icon still shows VT-X/AMD-V disabled. However, I have virtualization enabled (along with execute disabled 'enabled') in the BIOS but still no luck.
What I've tried:
- Checked and enabled BIOS for Virtualization
- Execute Disabled is enabled in BIOS
- Updated BIOS firmware (and all firmware) to latest version from Dell
- Updated to latest VirtualBox (4.3.10)
- Turned off my machine completely (pulled the power cable for over a full minute)
- Checked the log for 'Package type: WINDOWS_64BITS_GENERIC' which is there.
- Checked the forums, FAQ, as much as possible I still can't solve my issue
My hardware/Software:
- Virtual Box 4.3.10 r93012
- Dell PowerEdge R510
- 32.0 GB of RAM
- Intel Xeon CPU E5640 @ 2.67GHz (2 processors)
- Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (64-bit) - Service Pack 1
Any help or suggestions that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Any recommendations on what I'm missing or haven't checked for?
