Windows 7 cant install
using virtual 4.3.10 on windows 7x64 ultimate host. Im trying to install windows 7x86 in virtual box but it gives me a 0x0000007E error right after the setup files load. i was able to get around by downgrading virtual box to 4.2.6.

- Never, ever, copy-paste a log or configuration file. First of all it makes hard to read your post, and second it destroys the format. Instead use the "Upload attachment" at the bottom of this window.
- Why did you change the defaults? Specially the Chipset, you have it set as ICH9. Try with the default PIIX3 and see if that fixes it.
- If it doesn't, create a new VM and accept the defaults (except maybe disk size, RAM and VRAM).
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: Windows 7 cant install
changing it to piix3 gives me the exact same error and ive tried the defaults. they dont help at all. i know my disk images are good because it installs perfectly fine in vmware.

Re: Windows 7 cant install
Why mention VMWare? How did you create this VM, i.e. did you install it from scratch from the setup DVD? I ask because the error typically means a bad driver, which is the sort of thing you might expect if you tried to run the VMWare guest tools inside a VirtualBox VM.deboerdn2000 wrote:changing it to piix3 gives me the exact same error and ive tried the defaults. they dont help at all. i know my disk images are good because it installs perfectly fine in vmware.
I also notice that you only have ~700MB RAM available when this VM is launched, which is not a lot. And please confirm that this is definitely a 32bit guest, and not 64bit?

Re: Windows 7 cant install
its completely from scratch using virtualbox 4.3.10. i can make the machine in both vmware and virtualbox 4.2.2 but when i switch it over to 4.3.10 it doesnt work at all.

4.3.10? I just noticed that the log file you provided is from 4.2.6 - so not very useful for diagnosing 4.3.10 issues.

Re: Windows 7 cant install
ive uploaded the corrected log and ive tried giving it 2gigs of ram which should be more then enough and yes i can confirm it is indeed a 32bit guest.

Re: Windows 7 cant install
Just pointing out that according to VirtualBox you are not running Windows 7 as host.00:00:06.691531 Build Type: release
00:00:06.691572 OS Product: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
00:00:06.691575 OS Release: 6.0.6000
It also looks like the guest is more than likely 64-bit and that has not been selected in the version name of the guest settings.
But the worst of it all your Windows version + service pack are not a valid Windows build (according to Microsoft) You may want to contact them if you think it is a genuine Microsoft build.

Re: Windows 7 cant install
ill contact microsoft about the windows issue. i just tried the same virtual machine using linux mint 16 so i know that shouldnt affect it and it gives me the exact same error. i attached the log i get from linux running virtualbox 4.3.10. the name of the .iso im using is x15-65732.iso which is 32bit home premium 7 and that was downloaded from digitalriver. i just tested my windows 7 on microsofts validation check and it says its genuine so that may be a bug. but ill contact them about it.
