VirtualBox EFI is intended for OS X guests. Linux also works, Windows doesn't.

3.12. Alternative firmware (EFI)
Note that the VirtualBox EFI support is experimental and will be enhanced as EFI matures and becomes more widespread. While Mac OS X and Linux guests are known to work fine, Windows guests are currently unable to boot with the VirtualBox EFI implementation.

Windows 8 & 8.1 run in VirtualBox. You just need to uncheck EFI in the VirtualBox settings. I don't know if you would have to reinstall Windows if you had it checked when you created the guest.

Hi all.

I did download VirtualBox 4.3.10 for OS X hosts. The problem still continues...

Solution for me :

1) vmware fusion

firmware = "efi"
bios.forceSetupOnce = "FALSE"
bios.bootDelay = "2555"

2) Parellels Desktop

Kind regards.

my solution: don't check efi in VirtualBox when creating a Windows 8 or 8.1 guest. I think my way is cheaper. ;)
