I think this, for me, is getting to the 'nitty gritty' of the problem - and thanks for those screen captures, Perryg.

They are obviously taken from Virtual Box and suggests one has to enter manually?

My assumption was they are entered there upon the correct bridging - presumably between Ethernet Adapter and Virtual Box's Host-Only Adapter in Windows (Host)?

Interestingly after deleting from within Virtual Box the Host-Only Adapter and re-installing, when typing ipconfig in the Windows Command Prompt, it now tells me that:

Ethernet Adapter Virtual Box Host-Only Network I.P. Address: 192.168.60.1.

Does this mean I am on the right track?

It means you need to check the the settings again. It is supposed to be 192.168.56.*

RIght, okay. I am on the verge of getting ready to setup a D.H.C.P. Server as part of Windows 2003 Server, but the technical support of Centova Cast (the software for which I am going through this learning curve) suggested this was a complex and unnecessary step for their software to work?

Against my better judgement, I have installed a D.H.C.P. Server, and now under Virtual Box, File->Preferences->Networking->Host Only Network details, it has the I.P. Address of 192.168.148.1 with a Network Mask of 255.255.255.0.

Any better?

Spend the money for a home router. The learning curve for what you want to do is really steep.

Okay, Modem removed, router in place, Host-Only Adapter in place - I.P. address assigned according to Network within File=>Preferences->Network - Ethernet and Host-Only Adapter now not bridged in Windows, I launch Debian, and no Internet....?!

With a home router you don't need NAT or Host-only, Just bridged. Debian may be unhappy now with all the network work so you need to clean that up. See below:

edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules or you can delete the rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot

You should get an address from the DHCP of the router unless you have entered a lot of static addresses. These will need to be adjusted to the address scheme of the router or select DHCP in the network manager.

I have left Bridged-only within Virtual Box attached to the Network Card as you previously advised.

I have the Host-Only and Ethernet connection bridged in Windows to give me Network Bridge 3...but still no Internet in Debian...

I take that back, I have a connection Perryg, thank you, but it seems to be quite slow!!!

I am pretty sure they have been altered as Linux does this by default when network adapters are added or changed. Its up to you what you do but I would delete the file mentioned and reboot to get a clean, pristine network setup.
