Where to find all virtualbox files.

Post by Eritrea »

Hello I am new to this form, and I would like to know where all files of virtualbox (v 4.2.16) are kept in my windows7 laptop.
The thing is I may be formatting my laptop soon, and I would like to backup every bit of Vbox files that exist, so as have have all contents when I re-install virtual box again after formatting my laptop. I can already see a .VirualBox folder in C:\Users\user\.VirtualBox but, it's contents are too few to be the actual virtual box. So, I am wandering where the entire file/source is located.

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Actually with the newer versions of VirtualBox all you need to backup are your guests and unless you have changed the locations should be in a master folder called VirtualBox VMs
Then you just add them back using the add feature of VirtualBox. All the other files are replaced on install so there makes little sense in backing them up. Some will tell you to backup the VirtualBox.xml but most people actually make a mess of that and is not all that necessary.
