Symbolic Linked VMs Directory

Can VirtualBox disk image (*.vdi) be located in a symbolic linked directory?
Example:
MKLINK /D "VirtualBox VMs" "M:\Users\<username>\VirtualBox VMs"
VMs located in the symbolic linked directory can be added to VirtualBox. But when VirtualBox is started it complains that the disk image (*.vdi) is not available.
VirtualBox: 4.34 r91027
Thanks
