Existing pc image deployment within VM?

Post by davejr72 »

Is it possible to deploy an image of an existing physical PC within a VM using VirtualBox?
I have an XP machine with legacy software that is essentially irreplaceable and would like to make an image of that computer and deploy it on a Win 7 machine. Any input is appreciated.

Thank you. After more searching I finally found that I can use Disk2VHD and deploy that in a VirtualBox. Going to give it a try. Will post my results.

Hello everyone.
I really ask you guys for help. :? :? :?
i am a beginner oracle database administrator,so for my study i decided to deploy an image of our database server on Virtual machine.
I used ocarle vm ver. 4.3.10 к 93012 and disk2vhd utility and created an image placed into vhd disk..... First attempt to deploy an image was succesful, but due the chanches in hardware i had a message on VM to activate a windows. I repeated this at home and at work, vm worked. At work we use a couple of applications working with oracle database and base increases everyday and i decided to create another fresh image. Now i cant deploy it in vm nore at home neither at work, the version of Vm is the same, i downloaded other version of disk2vhd. the system on vm starts and hangs deadly :(
BUT!Guys this new image runs on vmware machine and it runs a little slowly but anyway it runs!!!
what did i do wrong with my favorite virtual box? :( :? The server i made an image from, runs under windows server 2003 enterprise.
Guys please heelp! i googled a lot but cant find any solvation :(
sorry for bad english and hopefully wait for any answer...
Eve
