Hi Guys,
I have a VM that runs some web pages. I want my Host (Laptop that runs virtualbox) to be able to connect to those web pages. But i cant seem to get a connection established.
What network settings will work and or how do you get 2 different gateways to communicate?
Host 192.168.1.1
Vm 192.168.111.1
VM to Host Connectivity

Re: VM to Host Connectivity
Either "bridged" or "host only" should allow host and guest to have two way conversations. Note that "host only" would be on a different network, so you shouldn't confuse the IP address used on one network with the IP address the same device might use on another network.
How do you get two gateways to communicate? I'm not sure what you mean. A gateway is a portal through which other devices communicate. The gateways don't do any communicating of their own.

Re: VM to Host Connectivity
Bridged gives the vm interent by my laptop still cant reach because of the different gateways.
How can i change the gateway on the vm to match the same gateway as my host. When i do that the internet completely stops and it still doesnt work.
I've done it before but i cant get it to work, there needs to be a way,

Re: VM to Host Connectivity
"Bridged" gives the VM access to the same network the host uses, typically there's a router at the other end which will use the DHCP protocol to automatically assign the VM a dynamic IP and gateway address. So, unless you really know what you're doing, make sure the guest isn't configured to use a static IP.
If you only want to communicate between guest and host then use "host only" network. Host only networking has its own DHCP server. However this will not get guest and host using the same "gateway", since the host in this case is the gateway.

Re: VM to Host Connectivity
The VM is set for bridged and doesnt have a static IP. I don't know where it gets the gateway from? Sure I'm connected to a router but im given 192.168.1.1. But my vm's in oraclebox keep getting 111.1. Not sure how.
I could set a static IP for my vm in which my host would be able to connect to but then i wont have internet on the vm.
I've seen a way to add another network card or protocol, does this sound familiar?

Read Chapter 6 of the User Manual. For a brief introduction read Ch. 6.2.2 and for more details, the rest of the chapter as it applies to your case.
