How can I tell which VirtualBox is which?

Post by omega1 »

Hi all,

I think I already know the answer may be 'no', but, is it possible to differentiate which VirtualBox is taking up all the CPU resources (assuming there is more than one VirtualBox running) without actually stopping it?

The reason I ask is because at the moment I have 6 VirtualBoxes running and one of them is using up a lot of CPU and I'd like to know which one without shutting them all down one by one. In this instance I will, but I wondered if there was a way to do this without shutting them all down to find out which one is the culprit as in Task Manager, they are all names VirtualBox.exe

If anyone knows, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Depends on which Windows OS but the task manager should show you or resource monitor. You could install sysinternals suite as well.

You could temporarily Pause them one by one to see which one is the rogue one.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I was ideally looking for a way to do it without disrupting them all.

What would the sysinternals suite give me? I'll see what I can find out online...

Thanks for info so far, if anyone has any other info... Thanks

Perry's suggestion about Sysinternals is spot on, Omega. Use Process Explorer:
Which Virtualbox.PNG
Which Virtualbox.PNG (120.89 KiB) Viewed 1012 times
When you hover the mouse over one of the Virtualbox.exe's, the tooltip pop-up shows the name and UUID of the guest. Hover over the guest using the CPU...
