Mouse Pointer Doesn't Scale If Guest Additions Installed

I am in the process of migrating a very old system from hardware to a VM. I have most of it working. The last problem is with the display.

I have some applications on the old system that require 800 x 600 resolution.

On the old hardware connect to the monitor via a KVM switch when the resolution is set to 800 x 600 it fills the screen.

Using the VM on a host connected to the same KVM switch and set to full screen mode when the resolution is set to 800 x 600 it fills an 800 x 600 pixle box in the middle of the screen.

I then tried scaling with the window maximized. That gets most of the way there. I would like to get rid of the window frame at the top of the screen but I can probably live with it. The real problem is the mouse pointer -- it isn't scaled if guest additions are installed. If guest additions are not installed the mouse pointer scales.

However, without the guest additions installed there are a few "new" hardware items that no drivers can be found for. One is a standard VGA device and another is base system.

The VGA one is strange because device manager does not show another video controller or monitor yet the VM is writting to the screen.

I can limp along with the current problems but I would like to clear them up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
