VBox 4.3.8 Guest Additions + Win 8.1 = black screen again

Post by MartiniDog »

Trying everything I can - It seems the best solution is not to use Guest Additions.

Anyone else out there having black screen at startup of an 8.1 32-bit VM inside a 64-bit Win7 SP1 host? I've tried all the combos.

Sigh.

Have you tried to disable 3D acceleration of your VM?
VM Settings, Display, Video, Extended features, Enable 3D acceleration = Unchecked

Oh yes, by "tried everything", I mean, I've left 2D and 3D ON then installed it, or OFF, then installed it. I think i understand the issue - the 4.3.8 installer forces the Direct3D driver, which may be unstable.

Any way to install everything BUT Direct3D? Or some other way around this?

Thanks!

It's not a 3D problem on my Mac Host. I have no black screens. 8.1 runs fine as a guest for me.
