Strange error from inside Windows 7 guest.
This was just some strange anomaly I'm sure but, while running my Windows 7 guest that I have had installed for at least 2 years the Windows Action Center reported that the Sun VirtualBox VMM had stopped working correctly. The suggested solution was to download Sun VirtualBox 3.1.2. I ignored it of course but I have no idea why that would have happened. I've never had VirtualBox installed inside any guest. Strange.

Re: Strange error from inside Windows 7 guest.
You put "Sun" in bold, so if that's what's strange, it's because up to 3.1.8 it was offered by Sun. If the strange thing is that you received an error message in the Windows Action Center, then maybe it's the guest additions that crashed?
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

it didn't seem to be the GAs. They were still working. Shared folders etc.socratis wrote:You put "Sun" in bold, so if that's what's strange, it's because up to 3.1.8 it was offered by Sun. Looks like the "download from Sun" message comes from Microsoft in case of a VirtualBox VMM Device error:

that's the message I got but the guest was working just fine. since I've only seen it once for the first time in the years I've been running W7 as a guest I won't worry about it. It hasn't done it since so far.Martin wrote:Looks like the "download from Sun" message comes from Microsoft in case of a VirtualBox VMM Device error:
