Shared Folder Not working - Win7 Host - Win7Guest

Hello - newbie but I did check everywhere for a solution for this.
1) Win7 OS installs fine
2) created a Shared folder called HostDownloads
3) when running the guest - I click on Devices\Shared Folders and I get "Virtual Box Guest additions do not appear to be available..."
4) click ok and then I see what I had configured
5) checking other posts everywhere - I'm told that i need to map a network drive \\VBOXSVR\HostDownloads

Cannot find the share. I've tried many combinations of this - WIN8.1 etc. I can see a D drive with Virtual Guest additions loaded in File Explorer. Just wondering what I failed to do to get it loaded properly. All other searches I see with similar errors end up being resolved with step 5 above. Please help. This is critical for getting software loaded up on the guest for me to test etc. Thanks in advance.

Ok - helps to read the manual people!!!

"A Windows guest should then automatically start the Guest Additions installer, which installs the Guest Additions into your Windows guest. Other guest operating systems (or if automatic start of software on CD is disabled) need manual start of the installer."

Well, I havent checked to see if autostart is disabled, but I ran manually and the host is now mounted automatically, just it had been configured.

Resolution: 1) Devices\ insert Guest additions CD image
2) my D drive is then mounted with exe's
3) manually run the exe and it will install on the guest (requires a restart)
