When installing Windows Server 2008 32-bit on VB 4.3.8, the install gets to the end of the 'Windows is loading files....' bar and then I get a 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager has stopped working' pop-up
The host is Windows 8.1 64-bit, and this is something I've done previously, but I think the host has been upgraded from 8 to 8.1 since the previous install. I've tried with 2 different install CDs, and also with their .ISO images copied to a HDD.
I have attached the VBox install log, so any help will be appreciated. It could be simply that there is a VM limit or something

Re: Windows Server 2008 install fails Windows 8.1 Host
Windows Server 2008 64-bit installs OK. All the other Windows Server VMs I have installed are 32-bit, so something's changed, but what?

512MB RAM for a Win 2008 server? That seems a bit optimistic. Also you have a Win8.64 host, so make sure you have Hyper-v disabled if you want to enable VT-x in a guest as you've done here.

Re: Windows Server 2008 install fails Windows 8.1 Host
Hyper-V is disabled. 512 MB sounded a bit low to me, but it was the default VirtualBox chose on installation. Looking at Task Manager in the 64-bit system that did install there seemed to be virtual memory to spare. The host has 8 GB and usage of that looks OK as well.
The 32-bit Windows Server 2008 machines that are already installed seem to function fine as well on 512 MB

Exact same problem. The server 2008 guest is 32-bit and has 1gb RAM assigned.
Host is:
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Intel Second Gen i7 2Ghz
8gb RAM.

Re: Windows Server 2008 install fails Windows 8.1 Host
if I were to install w2008 server and make it anything useful, I would at least give it 2GB of RAM, 60 GB of disk space
of course, I would make sure hypervisor on w8 host is disabled when running VB, and I would not install hypervisor inside the w2008 server. you do need to play with H_V inside w2008, I would limit other applications and vm from running when playing HV inside w 2008 and give that vm guest more RAM and disk space., and add the hypervisor role after install.

The same ISO installs with no issue on Linux Mint 17 64-bit. This seems to be a problem With Windows 8.1 64-bit.
