Windows 7 Virtual Machine Issues

Hello,
Two questions:
I am installing version VirtualBox-4.3.6-91406-Win on a Windows XP host.
No Guest Additions
When I start the Windows 7 VM, I get the following message;
"A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped."

I also installed the same version on thumb drive and it works well. The issue is that my instructor said that my Windows 7 VM should be running IE 8 instead of IE 11 and that I must have updated it. I protested but still looked for a way to remove IE 11 and install the former to no avail. Is that possible? I also tried to create a new Windows 7 VM with IE 8 but that did not work either. Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Sim Hughes

00:00:01.607093 Host RAM: 1014MB total, 240MB available
00:00:04.257433 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000040000000 (1 073 741 824, 1 024 MB)
00:02:35.810233 VM: Raising runtime error 'HostMemoryLow' (fFlags=0x2)

Not enough RAM to run a guest

You realize that you will not be able to do anything with this guest, IE: update or save files since it is immutable to it, right

Code: Select all

00:00:04.257408 Name <string> = "Windows 7 Virtual Machine (Immutable)" (cb=38)
Processor is very old, so even if you add RAM to the host don't expect too much from the guest.

Code: Select all

00:00:04.258786 HMR3Init: Falling back to raw-mode: VT-x is not available.

Thanks, those answers saved me a lot of time. Another question; is it possible to run IE 8 in a Windows 7 VM as my instructor maintains? Microsoft seems to be defaulting to IE 11.

This seems to be a question for a Windows/IE forum. VM or not has nothing to do with it.
