Issue while recording virtual box with camtasia on windows 8

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum and I wonder if anyone could help with the following issue:

Over the last year I have successfully make video tutorials on linux software using camtasia. To make these tutorials, I use this program to record my computer screen where I have virtual box running ubuntu.

I used to work with a windows 7 host. But recently, I updated my computer to windows 8.1 and when I try to record virtual box I only get a black screen. This only happens when I have a full screen. The audio from ubuntu in the virtual box is recorded fine.

Anyone has any experience on why this happens with windows 8?

thanks for your time.

Presumably this is a consequence of how guest video is rendered on the host. Try turning off 3D acceleration.

Hello mpack! Thank you very much for your reply:

Do you mean the option within the screen tab in virtual box? That one and the one of 2D are by default deactivated by default... I tried activating them but no luck :(

Yes, I meant the 3D option in the "Display" branch of the VM settings. You can't just turn them on: these options enabled virtual hardware features which need to be matched by proper drivers, i.e. the 3D option when you install the GAs.

Disabled by default? Strange, I thought 3D is enabled by default in the Win8 VM template.

You obviously have a display driver problem of some kind. How much VRAM did you give the guest? In fact, post a VM log file please. For details see Minimum information needed for assistance.
