VirtualBox running inside a Hyper-V VM

Post by Tim@Drawbase »

Hello,

I am trying to set up a test environment to begin testing integration with Peoplesoft. I am attempting to get one of the VM supplied by Oracle to run within a Hyper-V VM. I get the impression this will actually run because I am able to install the client software and also able to import the VM. When I start the VM I notice it is a Linux Ubuntu build and receive an error that the processor is not a true x-64 processor and therefore the OS cannot boot. I then install VirtualBox on a workstation that I know has a true 64 bit processor and I get the same error on start-up. Anyone familiar with this? Is it possible to put VirtualBox as well as the supplied Oracle/PS VM into a Hyper-V VM? Is the proccessor error only because it is a Virtual processor, and if so why am I getting the error on a 64-bit machine. I need this VM u[p and running ASAP and don't understand why it won't work on the workstation if it doesn't run on the server, which honestly may not be true 64 bit processors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nested virtualization is not supported. Even if you get it to work you will not be able to run 64-bit guests, as you have already found out, due to the missing VT-x that can't be passed through. As for running the peoplesoft application on hyper-v you would need to ask peoplesoft and microsoft.
