Hardware: HP Envy Laptop I3-2377M @1.5GHz 8GB RAM, running Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1.
Installed Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.8 with no issues. Since I already had a copy of Win 7 Pro on DVD, I installed this first in VBox, virtual machine came up fine. Then I went through the long process of downloading Fedora, then burning the ISO image to disk. The first time I chose a Fedora 17 “spin.” After creating the virtual machine, the install went to a blank screen and stayed hung up in Neverland.
So, I figured well maybe I need the full DVD for the first install. So I downloaded Fedora 20 DVD. It took choosing “Start Installation” I got a black screen going nowhere for a very, very long time which never changed.
So, I said maybe the problem is related to the version. So I went back and downloaded the ISO for Fedora 19. Again took in excess of 2 hours but how else will I know what the problem is?
After the ISO download for 19 and the burn to disk, I removed the old Fedora machines and deleted their contents and then took down VBox, shut down PC to a cold state, and restarted the computer.
Started VBox again, created a Fedora 19 machine. Then started it, this time I decided to choose to “Verify and then Install”.
It proceeded through copying the files and the post installation setup. The boot loader was installed. It seemed things were going fine. It went through and said it was successfully installed and to reboot. Once I reboot, it looks like it is coming up, showing the blue stripes moving across the bottom as it loads, but then when it gets to a certain point:

After this I restarted it and I got a message from Windows. It said that oracle VM Manager stopped working. And it said that to fix this Windows applied compatibility settings to the program. And, it said if the program didn’t run correctly, try to run it again. So I did.
Then I got a Virtual Box “Guru Meditation” (cute) saying:
“Critical error has occurred. Machine execution stopped. See log at C:\users\Mary Ann\Virtual Box VM\Fedora19\logs”

What should I do to get Fedora working as a virtual machine?

I would enable hardware virtualization in the hosts bios and try again. Also be careful to select the right version when installing. If it is 64-bit you must select 64-bit in the guest settings.

Thanks, I'll try this next. When you say " If it is 64-bit " I am assuming you mean the version of Fedora? (Not the processor, right?).
Please correct me if my assumption is incorrect.

He means the selection you make for the OS type when you configure the vm when you create it. If you are installing a 64-bit version of the OS, make sure that you select the 64-bit option in the vm settings.
