Keyboard repeats when accessing guest via remote desktop

Hi all,

I've had this problem for a long time with OS X 10.7 server and up, 10.6.8 is the last OS where I did not experience this problem. I set up my guest OSs (Linux) in virtual boxes located on mac mini servers around the planet. I need to access the virtual box guest once to set up the network interfaces. On a good day and with a lot of patience, I manage to set up the /etc/network/interfaces file so that I can access via SSH and from that point on all is well. But on a bad day, like today, I spend an hour trying to get the file edited, but because the key repeat rate is so bad, I simply can't even type a few lines of NIC properties...

Surely I'm not the only person out there that has this problem? There's a thread from 2013 with suggestions to slow or stop the key repeat rate, none of the suggestions in that thread have any effect (nor do they make any sense).

Any meaningful suggestions are much appreciated!
