Bridged networking fail - No IP - Win7 host - Ubuntu guest

Hi,
I run Windows 7 host machine with a Ubuntu 12.04 guest OS, I have set the network setting to Bridged.
In Ubuntu I get no IP address. I am suspicious about that lspci in guest OS doesn't show the name listed in "Description" from "ipconfig /all" on the host machine. Is this normal? How do I rectify it?

Getting stuff from the guest is harder because I don't have root access so I can't install the guest additions so I can copy paste from guest to host (or if anyone knows how to do this I am grateful for any help)

checking on another host machine (also Win7) with a different Ethernet adapter listed by ipconfig /all still shows up that same adapter in VirtualBox, so that adapter is something that is installed by Oracle.
