Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1 issue

Post by RegztheChimp »

Trying to install Windows 7 Professional onto VirtualBox. I downloaded the Operating System straight from the Windows Open Source site. I have been using VMWare until today and am running into an issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am in stage 1 of installing Windows 7 Pro. After I choose the version of Windows 7 I want to install I get a Compatibility Report with the following message :

"The computer started using the WIndows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade. (Do not select "Custom (advanced)" to perform an upgrade. "Custom (advanced)" installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings.)"

The rub being I am not using a CD/DVD media. I am using an iso file I downloaded straight from the windows open source site given to me by my school.

Thank you for the time.

The .iso file is mounted as a virtual CD/DVD. To the virtual computer it looks and feels like a real CD/DVD. That is expected.

However, the message that you got during installation suggests that you may have a Windows 7 Update iso, not a full installation one. That would require an existing installation of a previous Windows system (XP? Vista?) and cannot be used to initiate a new OS installation.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Either that or it's a service pack CD.

It would be helpful to have the exact download link - I appreciate that as a new user you can't post links, so post something as close as you can, and I'll use my mod superpowers to correct it.
