Hi there,

I've been using Final Cut Express for years and was very disappointed when they discontinued it. In the event of my current mac breaking down I've been looking at ways that I may be able to run it on a new mac with Mavericks OS. I came across this software and I'm wondering if anyone on this forum knows if it would be possible to run Final Cut Express via Virtual Box on a 2014 iMac? Has anyone on this forum tried it? The details of the computer I'm looking at getting and the software details are below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Computer details: 21.5 Inch 2.9GHz Quad core i5, OS Mavericks
Version of Virtual Box: 4.3.8 Mac
Guest OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.3
Software wanting to use: Final Cut Express version 4.0.1

Thank you.

Programs like Final Cut Express tend to push the physical hardware to their limit. Virtual machines will never be as powerful as the host, specially on the video side. Applications that have high requirements on the GPU (drawing, 3D, games) are expected to not work as good as on the real hardware.

But I would start by trying to install 10.6.3 in a Virtual Machine first and see if that works. You have a new Mac and old OSX versions are notorious for not wanting to install in newer hardware. Even a virtualized one.
