Multiple fixed ip virtuals on one single host pc

Post by Bio73 »

Hi Guys

I am new here. I have been looking around for a few days now and cant for the life of me find helpful information or instructions on this topic :(

I have set up two virtual machines running windows server 2012 on my windows server 2012 machine. Both Virtuals run fine.

I am looking to set the host pc with its own static IP but will also need each of the virtuals to have different static IP's to the host.

One virtual is going to be used to run our phone server and the other to run as one half of a file server.

Please could i get some good instructions on how to achieve this?

I would be very greatful indeed!

Cheers! :D

It isn't surprising that you can't find anything about that on this site, because the question has nothing to do with VirtualBox. And for the same reason, no it would not really be appropriate to provide detailed instructions here. A PC software problem doesn't become a VirtualBox problem simply by virtue of running the software in a VirtualBox VM.

In your case you want to know how to configure three PCs such that they each have static IPs assigned to them. You'll find that information in a networking book, and I'm sure there are PC and networking forums you can check also.

I dont believe you have understood me... It is very much to do with virtualbox as both my virtuals which im trying to assign static ip's run on virtualbox.

I am wanting to have my two virtuals that run on virtualbox and are windows server 2012 virtuals to have fixed ip's

I also would like my host server to have a fixed ip (i know how to do this no problem)

So would someone be able to provide me with instructions on how to add fixed ip's to each of the virtuals? :) Or even could i get instructions on how to add a fixed ip onto one of my virtuals running on virtualbox? :D

Cheers

Hmm. I've read both your messages again, and I still believe I understood you correctly the first time. VirtualBox is a hardware simulation, IP assignment is a guest software configuration problem. You don't come to us with application software problems any more than you would go to Dell or HP with the those problems.

However, if you simply want to know how to use virtual networking in VirtualBox VMs then a good start is the user manual, chapter 6. If some part of the manual is not clear then by all means ask about it here.

How would you do it on a standalone PC?
The same method will work with Vbox.

Well, naturally. This is the VirtualBox support site. If you ask about non-VirtualBox matters here then any such discussion would be off topic. I've told you what I can, which is to consult a networking forum, PC support forum, or a book on networking. A VM is just another PC, they have no special requirements or hidden skills in this area. A network of PCs and virtual PCs behaves the same as any other PC network, and is configured the same way.
