Hello,
I try to run x64 machine in VB on 2 virtual machines. I have 2 identical environments - vitual machines in ESXi(2-cores; Xeon E5620, 6GB RAM). Both are Windows 7 Enterprise x64, one is W7 without SP1 and using VB 4.3.6, second is with SP1 and running VB 4.3.8. First one running x64 system, second offers only 32-bit versions, and can't run preinstalled x64 OS.
Where should be a problem?
Thanks
Virtualbox start VM just in 32bit mode

Re: Virtualbox start VM just in 32bit mode
- 64-bit guests need hardware virtualization enabled in the host's BIOS (which means that you have to enable VT-x/AMD-V in your BIOS). Look at your user-manual for your specific model on how to do this.
- When creating the 64-bit guest VM you must select 64-bit variant of the OS (VM Settings -> General -> Basic -> Version).
- If another virtualization program is running and not "cooperating" you must disable it or uninstall it (see example below).
- If running Windows as host you must make sure Hyper-V or XP-mode is not enabled on the host.

Re: Virtualbox start VM just in 32bit mode
I have 2 environments with identical settings, one with VB 4.3.6 - working, one with 4.3.8 - can't run x64 machine. It is not about virtualization, VB version 4.3.8 simply doesn't allow me to run 64bit machine.

Re: Virtualbox start VM just in 32bit mode
1) Are you sure Hyper-V or XP-mode is not enabled on the host with the 4.3.8 version?
2) What exactly do you mean "doesn't allow me to run"?
3) Minimum information needed for assistance.

Re: Virtualbox start VM just in 32bit mode
There are no reported bugs in VirtualBox in this area. Check the suitablility of your host hardware along the lines that Socratis has indicated.Honza wrote:I have 2 environments with identical settings, one with VB 4.3.6 - working, one with 4.3.8 - can't run x64 machine. If you don't agree, then - before discussing this any further - provide a sample log file for the "bad" machine.
