Issue with snapshot creation

Post by Sowmya Dass »

I have a Sun Solaris host running a VM named winvm with windows-7 on it. I installed a couple of new softwares onto this Windows-7 VM and tried to create a new snapshot of the VM by following the steps mentioned below:
1. Connected to the VM using remote desktop and installed the new softwares. Closed the remote desktop window.
2. Took the snapshot while the VM was running using the command: VBoxManage snapshot winvm take snap2 from the sun solaris host machine.

On this VM, I have a few windows services that have been set to type automatic and have been configured to start at bootup.
Now when I try to stop the vm (I usually kill the pid corresponding to the process eg: /opt/VirtualBox/amd64/VBoxHeadless -s winvm), restore winvm to use this new snapshot and connect via remote desktop I see that none of those automatic services are started.

I wonder if there is a problem with the process that i have followed to create the new snapshot. As the already existing snapshot snap1 (created by someone else) seems to be fine as when i restore my VM to use snap1 and connect to it, I am able to see the automatic windows services running as expected.

It would be great if anyone could suggest me ways to resolve the above mentioned issue.

Thanks !
