Post by actionmystique »

Hello,

My environement: host Windows 8.1 - Guest Ubuntu 13.10
Updated VB to 4.3.8
Then Installed VB Guest additions the usual way for Ubuntu 13.10.
Then restarted the VM, then this:

Am I the only one experiencing this issue?

I saw the exact same screen, now the display manager no longer works and fails to start up. Tried to rollback to 4.3.6 but the ga are still 4.3.8 and still having issues.

I've attached 2 logs:
  • .VirtualBox\VBoxSVC.log
VirtualBox VMs\Ubuntu Desktop 64 bits\VBox.log (divided into 2 files - original file too big to upload as is)

I am having this problem too. It crashes during the install process. I tried installing in safe mode. That installs succesfully but then the OS won't start.

Host: Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
Guest: Windows 8.1 64-bit
Host Architecture: x64
Virtrual Box Version: 4.3.8 r 92456

Log files are attached.

Ah... It was Windows 8 when the VM was setup... I didn't see a new option had been added to VirtualBox for 8.1. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help matters. I have attached the log.

Looking at the forums, I saw the thread titled "Win 8.1 Guest addition crashes during install" (won't let me post the link yet).

After enabling the 3D acceleration, I was able to intall the extensions.

Thanks.
