Installing Windows Server 2012r as Guest

Post by Moco75 »

I have been trying to install Windows Server 2012r as a guest machine in virtual box but I am getting error messages
when I try to run the dvd with burned ISO image. When I first tried to install the server in virtual box I got a 0xc00000e9 error message
so I burned a new dvd ISO and when i tried to install it a second time I got a 0xc000035a error message which said at the
bottom that my computer doesnt have 64 bit processor when it actually does. I also noticed in setting up the virtual machine name
(windows server 2012r) in virtual box it didn give me any 64 bit Os options in the version menu like i have seen in other interfaces.
I read somewhere that maybe you need to change the Virtualization support setting in BIOS to enabled on my physical Os which is
Windows 7 64 bit. The thing is that I have a T4200 CPU on my Dell Inpirion 1525 which I dont think supports virtualization.
I was just wondering could anyone confirm that this might be the cause of my problem?
Do I need my phsical host Os to support virtualization for Virtual Box.
When I downloaded Virtual Box it specified the Ram, Cpu and Hardrive memory requirements which my system meets.
It never said in System requirements that a computer with VT support was needed.
I only purchased my dell laptop recently too :(

If you do not have hardware virtualization, you cannot run a 64-bit OS as a vm.

Windows Server 2012 R2 does not come in any other version - it is 64-bit only.

You are correct. The T4200 does not support VT-x.
