Windows Xp Guest failing to boot out of the blue

Post by tothepain »

Hi.

Windows XP guest, Windows 7 host, Virtualbox 4.3.6 r91306

Out of the blue one of our XP Pro VMs has begun failing to boot. I've discovered a 0KB .vdi file in it's directory. Attached media shows up in media manager as "inaccessible", but the files are where they've always been. I have attempted to rebuild the machine by creating a new VM and attaching my old VDI, boot fails the same. I've tried re-importing the appliance this VM is based on, still fails to boot. I received a notification at startup that an audio device may not be functioning, so I've disabled audio in the VM and still no boot. All I see is "A disk read error occurred, press ctrl-alt-delete to restart", regardless of what media i'm using or what version of the VM I'm trying to boot. Nothing has changed on my end, what gives?

Please advise.
