Debian installation freezes on Windows Host

I am trying to install a Debian testing guest (jessie) 64-bit (2GB RAM) on a Windows 64-bit host (16GB RAM) running virtualbox 4.3.6 r91406.
The installation freezes while configuring apt just like described here
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17918.
I tried the workarounds described in the linked thread (enabling PAE; if I try to disable VT-x/AMD-v virtualbox warns me it is not possible on a 64-bit host).
What is causing this freeze and how can I proceed?
Thanks.

1) The thread that you linked is from 2009. Too old.
2)
Minimum information needed for assistance.

Is this what they call a cyclic reference?

I went into a terminal when it got stuck

Any clue why the installation is hanging?
Thanks.

Debian testing does not always work. Sometimes for up to a week before a release that does install properly. It depends on packages and if they are compatible. Add to that you chose net install it could take a long time to install. I see in the log that after the end point for the VDI was created you shut down. Have you tried to let it run for a while and see what happens? You also say that you went into terminal to see what was happening. Maybe you should explain the install method you are using.
If it were me I would install Debian stable and see if it works for you. Then you can update to jessie if you want, but do yourself a favor and clone the Debian stable first so you update the clone and not the working base in case the upgrade goes south.

I installed stable and now I'm upgrading it to testing. Let's see if it works.
Thanks.
