WinUSB Device returns Error 10

Post by HansOlo »

Hi,

I’m using a Win7 Host and Guest with VirtualBox 4.3.6.
I’m trying to connect a WinUSB device to the virtual-machine and install the driver (that works fine).
But the devicemanager shows a Code 10 error.(I'm using the same driver in the host that works)

In the forum I found several clues, so I installed the VBox Extension and activated USB 2.0 in the Vm.
But still got the Code 10 Error

What did I do wrong here?

Ok here are the infos:

The version of VirtualBox: 4.3.6 r91406
Guest Additions: I Installed the current Version
Host: 64bit Win7 Sp1 with 8GB Ram (i7 @3.4Ghz)

Hope this is everything.

Code 10 means that a USB device is detected, but no driver has been installed. I note what you say about having installed the driver - but the error says otherwise. Did you do a full reboot of the guest since installing the driver?

This error is coming from the guest, it has nothing to do with VirtualBox.

The driver is definitifly installed, if the driver is not installed the Code massage woul be 28.
Code 10 menas that the device could not be startet.

I setup a clean, new Win 7 and there I got the same result.
Also in my Win Xp VM

There has to be a wrong setting or somethin in the VM.

EDIT: and yes I did several reboot :-)

We've seen code 10 around here lots of times, when the user doesn't have a valid driver installed. I don't remember code 28 ever being reported. Still, you know your own VM best.

I did a test, I convertet the VirtualBox Image to *.ova
and bootet it with an other VM Tool
and the device just works fine.

So it's the proof that it has nothing to do with the guests Windows Setup/Installation.

I don't want to change to the Other VM tool  , so I'm still trying to get it to work.

Would be glad if someone hast further information.
Has someone tested a WinUSB Device in VirtualBox?
The log doesn't report an error, just the 'attached' notification.
Is there the possibility to do a deeper analysis, like a extended log or something?

I pass. In my experience if the device is being connected to the guest, and doesn't have too many timing dependencies, then it will work. I have no experience of WinUSB devices.
