I am a student worker for a Computer Information Systems department. I have been tasked to install the VM VirtualBox on each of the lab computers with several different operating systems. Each of the operating systems will be installed by each student from a vdi file. My problem is that I need the default settings for the VirtualBox Manager to have the network settings changed so that there is no access to the network through the VMs. Currently, the default setting for each is and enabled network adapter that is attached to a NAT. How do I make the default either "not attached" or a disabled network adapter?

If each student is installing his/her own copy of the OS under their own account and password, there is really no way to limit what they can or can't configure through VirtualBox Manager. If the account has enough privilege to install an OS it will have enough privilege to change the vm config, even if you somehow set up a default config for the vm (and the required config could be different for each OS).

Any limitations would need to be applied to the accounts at the host OS level (and I really can't think of any way to do what you want).
