Keyboard slow response in Windows 8 Guest 64bit

Post by Huntygowk »

I've got a logitech Mouse and Keyboard with USB unifiying receiver. When using the Windows 8 guest there is a slight delay between keypresses on the keyboard. It's extremely noticeable when using the CAPS Lock. It's hit and miss whether I'll hit the caps lock and get a capital letter on screen or whether it will be small case. It seems when pressing the caps lock and subsequent letter if you press the next key too quickly the caps lock keypress is not recognised. It's driving me mad.

Does anyone know if there's a setting that needs tweaked for using wireless mouse/keyboard via USB?

I've had the keyboard about a month. Absolutely no problems when using it in my Windows 8 Host(64bit)

Have got Guest Additions Installed and using VB 4.3.6
Loads of ram (16GB) and 4 processors.

Many thanks for any help.

The USB-ness of the keyboard should be irrelevant, and if you've made it relevant by grabbing ownership of the host using a USB filter... then that would not be good.

Remove any USB filters you have added to the VM, if they might be grabbing the keyboard from the host.

For smoother VM performance in general, make sure you install the Guest Additions (see user manual).

Hi, thanks for the response.

I've not got any USB filters and Guest Additions has been installed but still getting this lag from the keyboard.

Any other ideas what might be causing this?

Cheers

Well, the obvious thing is some task eating up a lot of CPU. Have you checked the task list in host and guest?

Giving the guest too many CPU cores can also cause a performance hit.

If you want to discuss this further then provide proper diagnostics, particularly a VM log file for a completed session: see Minimum information needed for assistance.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've decided to ditch VirtualBox for now. I've installed HyperV with Windows 8, and for me it's a lot quicker and no problems with keyboard/mice response times. I suspect I've not configured VirtualBox properly but I really need to crack on with some development so HyperV for the moment. I can see the differences already between the two which is interesting. Was a total pain to get wireless network adapter shared between host and guest, unlike in VB where it was a doddle, and no doubt more.

Anyway, thanks for the offer of help, it was appreciated.
