Bridged networking with a Win7 host and guest

Hi all,
I installed VirtualBox 4.2.18 back in October on a Windows 7 host and created a Windows 7 guest.

This all worked fine while I had the networking for the guest configured as Bridged. A couple of months later, I got a notification informing that an update for VirtualBox (4.3.4) was available, so I installed it. From that point onwards, bridged networking in my guest stopped working. It wasn't that it wouldn't let me select an adaptor or anything, it's just that the guest lost any connection to the outside world. The network adaptor is present in the Device Manager and claims it's working properly but it's not seeing the default gateway or DNS and the Network and Sharing Centre says it's connected to an 'Unidentified Network' with no connection to the Internet.

If I switch to a NAT, I can get a network connection, but for something things I need the bridged connection.

The same thing happens in 4.3.6.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Raj.

Run the following in the hosts command window and post the results.

Code: Select all

VBoxManage list bridgedifs
Note: you need to be in the folder that actually has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

I've run the command and the results are as follows:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage.exe list bridgedifs
Name: Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection
GUID: e5d3a33e-de58-45f5-8b8d-0ad0a6168d93
DHCP: Enabled
IPAddress: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
NetworkMask: 255.255.255.0
IPV6Address: fe80:0000:0000:0000:903c:ed43:e90b:55c6
IPV6NetworkMaskPrefixLength: 64
HardwareAddress: b8:ca:3a:8e:ba:17
MediumType: Ethernet
Status: Up
VBoxNetworkName: HostInterfaceNetworking-Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection
I've 'xxx'-ed my actual IP address.

Do you see a vbox host-only adapter in the guests network center?
If so disable it, shut the guest down ( not saved state ), make sure that bridged is selected, and start the guest.

Do you mean in the guest's 'Network and Sharing Centre'? If so, then no, all I see there is 'Local Area Connection'.

Does anyone have any other ideas here?
