Server domain Help

Post by rhys119 »

Ive at last made a domain and connected another machine to it :) problem is i create a Groupolicy object to restrict somethings For the organization group which i called users
but it only works if they logon to my domain from the local computer if they use another machine to logon to the domain it has no effect
also wen i share a Drive i have to map network it for it to show in my computer but ive seen on library computers that by default all users have access to there own drive/documents
how do i do this please?

If they can access your domain controller guest from another PC on the network (not the host), then your guest's network settings are good. (Your DC guest's network card would most likely be set to Bridged.)
If only your host can get to the DC guest, but other PCs can't even get to the guest, your guest needs to be set to bridged network.
The other stuff on setting up mapped user drives, getting Group Policy to work, etc. can be best answered on Micorsoft's forums (I assume Microsoft because you're asking about Group Policy.)
Keep in mind that you'd have to configure things carefully if you already have a domain controller on your present network.

Host = Physical PC running VBox
Guests = The VM's you created

That doesn't surprise me. The host is most unlikely to be using the domain controller for DNS, and that is what needs to happen for a domain joined machine. I think you need to do a bit more reading on how a domain works.

It is not a good idea to join the host to a domain controller which is running as a vm on that host.
