[Solved] Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
[Solved] Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
The width of the preference setting windows is so large. It's out the range of the screen.
I can change the height of the window, but can't change the width!!
It's very strange and I didn't see anyone has the same problem with me.

Can you drag the manager to the left until you see the right side? If so then use that to bring the right side in. If not, post the VirtualBox.xml file as a zipped attachment.
Also what is the host?
Also what is the host?

thanks for your reply.Perryg wrote:Can you drag the manager to the left until you see the right side? If so then use that to bring the right side in. If not, post the VirtualBox.xml file as a zipped attachment.

yes, i can drag the right side in. but i don't want to drag it every time. it's not the manager. the manager is OK.
you can look at the screenshot.
the VirtualBox.xml file just affect the window of the manager but not the setting dialog window.
Host is Windows 7 64bits.

Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
I found another problem which may have something to do with this issue.
I'm using a software Win32 Disk Imager. And it shows that the width of the its window is also out of the range of the screen.
And I found that this software is using Qt to build the GUI.
So maybe it is the problem of the Qt?

Code: Select all
<ExtraDataItem name="GUI/SplitterSizes" value="335,994"/>Code: Select all
VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/SplitterSizes 236,516Note: It may not work if anything VirtualBox is running. If in doubt reboot the host and run the command before you start anything.
Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
well, it holds to the new values but the width didn't change anyway.
I tried reboot my host and it didn't work.
I've reinstalled Virtualbox for times and also tried different version of the Virtualbox. and also didn't work.

Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
Strange. I can honestly say this is the first time I have actually seen this issue and I see a lot. Just so I can be sure, you say that you can move the setting screen to the left and use the mouse click and drag to make the settings window smaller, but the next time you open it you are back to it being off screen, correct?
One last thing to check. Look in the description section and others and see if you have entered a long stream of text, or if one of the fields have a lot of information. If so what?

Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
Actually not. I can drag it in but I can't change the width but the height.
And I didn't see one field contains such long text.
As I mentioned above, I was using a software named Win32DiskImager. It also has the same problem.
Maybe you can have a try.
I want to give up now because essentially it doesn't affect any function.
Maybe there is a bug in my host system or conflict with some other software. I don't know.
Anyway, thanks for your time, Perryg.

Normally I don't like loose ends but in this case I think you are right. If two applications act the same then the common denominator must be the host.
Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
Accidentally I figured out where the problem is.
I used some third-party Windows 7 theme and the theme replaced some .dll files of Windows.
And today I was bored with the theme and changed back to the default theme.
And then I found the size of the setting window just became normal.

Re: Setting Dialog Window too Large!! How to solve it?
Configurable themes have to provide "metrics" to Windows, giving the dimensions of certain windows widgets/components. Looks like your theme was passing a bad number for one or more of them.Samcyun wrote:And then I found the size of the setting window just became normal.
