Hi Gurus,

I have a problem with virtual box with above mentioned host and guest.

First time I installed it crashed at reboot but then I changed the boot order, then it crashed but came up to welcome screen by starting it from hard drive.

After accepting license agreements and setting time when I click finish button it crashed again and throwing me back to the Welcome Screen again.

Am attaching my log to this thread.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Let me know if you need any further details in diagnosing the issue caused.

I'm afraid that log is incomplete. Evidently the VM was still running when you grabbed it.

I notice two things:
  • You have assigned 2 cores to the guest, leaving none for the host (your CPU has 2 cores). This is usually a bad idea. I would reduce this to 1.
  • You assign 2GB RAM, I'm not sure your host can afford this.
If the guest is resetting then the issue may have nothing to do with VirtualBox. If you need to continue this discussion then I recommend you do the "showvminfo" thing mentioned in Minimum information needed for assistance, and post the result here.

Hi mpack,

Thanks for the quick response.

My Host has 4 cores of CPU out of which I used 2 cores for virtual machine guest OS(according to some online blog).

I have 8 GB of RAM so I think it should be good with the configuration.

The attached log file is taken when the guest OS has crashed from the finish button.

More insight is appreciated.

Your CPU has 2 cores according to Intel - I gave you the link, and I imagine they would know better than the blogger you mention. It has 4 threads, which is not at all the same thing - if it was the same thing then real cores would not command a premium.

Hi mpack,

Find the attached logs and still am facing the same issue.

It is crashing at REBOOT once and again at FINISH.

Am attaching the logs I got from ORACLE VIRTUALBOX.

VIRTUAL BOX: 4.3.6

HOST WINDOWS8

GUEST Oracle Linux R6 U4

I only need one log file of an event.

I see you have the generic "Other Linux (64 bit)" OS type selected. OEL is a fork of RHEL, so I suggest choosing "Red Hat (64 bit)". 1GB is a bit low for a 64bit VM. My previous intention was that you free up some memory on your host, though I forgot to say so. I would leave this setting at 2GB.

I see the setup DVD is still mounted. I have not install OEL myself - aren't you supposed to remove the DVD before restarting?
