WIN NT4 - COMM TO USB

Hello,
i have a usb to COMM adapter connected to my host machine (WIN 7). i have successfully created a host pipe to COM1, so my WIN NT (guest OS) can see the COM port.
The com port is connected to an external unit and it seems like the 2 systems are communicating cause i see lights blinking.
I am trying to retrieve the signal from an SCC card, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have a couple of doubts: knowing that the adapter is a us adapter, do i need to connect the usb to the guest ? if i do will the COM port on my host be removed ?

Is there a way to have the USB signal duplicated between host and guest instead of just switched over to the guest ?

Thanks,
David

Ownership of USB devices cannot be shared, so if the guest OS owns it then of course the host will not.

However, do you have an NT4-era driver for the device? I'm not sure what NT4 had in the way of native USB device support. Win98 was contemporary, and that required third party drivers for all USB devices, even mass storage.

SCC card?

Tell me how you configured the serial port settings for the VM, and what COMx port number is the USB-232 adapter using?

Mpack thanks for the reply.
I have found a way to enable NT to support USB: http://nt4ref.zcm.com.au/usb.htm and the i4usb406.exe specified in this guide actually works; i see the USB connected.

SCC card is an electronic card that handles the signals given to motors and sensors on a strandjack equipment. (something like this: http://www.enerpac.com/en/integrated-so ... rand-jacks

the configuration is:
Serial 1 enabled port COM1, host pipe with Create pipe NOT ticked and the port path is "COM1:"

As soon as i start the VM (no USB connected) i see communication from COM1 to the box i am working with, but when i try the card discovery it doesn't work.

Support for USB is only the lowest layer required, that's like a basic network card driver. You still need an NT4 driver for the device.

the image of NT i am using is taken from an old toughbook that is perfectly working with that card. doesn't that mean that the drivers are already in place ?

If NT4 was already using it as a USB device then yes, the drivers are already installed.
