VirtualBox reports different sized hard drive than hosts

Post by Darxide23 »

I have a Windows 7 host running a virtual machine that has a 6 GB dynamic .vdi hard drive attached to it. The guest OS (Windows XP) is reporting the drive as 4 GB as is the Windows boot disk. I've even booted to a GParted CD image and it also reports the max size of the drive as 4 GB. None show any unpartitioned space.

Any idea why this is and how to get guests to see the entire 6 GB size without trashing the hard drive image and starting over?

EDIT: I used the vboxmanage utility to resize the drive to 8 GB and now VirtualBox reports the size as 8 GB but the guest Windows OS and Gparted still report it as 4 GB with no unpartitioned space.

TL;DR: Resizing doesn't work if the image has snapshots.

Thanks. Will delete my snapshots as I don't need any of them anymore.
