I'm getting an error to the effect that the device is "busy with a previous request" whenever I try to add it.

Does anyone have this device working with 4.3.6 on Mavericks? I'm using a Win7 Guest O/S.

Usually the "busy with a previous request" means that the host has grabbed the device and mounted it on the desktop so the guest can't access it. In the case of a CD/DVD drive you can eject it on the host and the guest may grab it once it's unmounted. The better solution is to read the information in the VirtualBox User Manual on creating filters for USB devices (3.10 USB Support starting on page 56). You also want to make sure that your have the Extension Pack installed and that you have the USB controller enabled in the settings for your VM.

... and you may also want to consider accessing the drive as a shared folder instead, allowing the host to continue owning the drive.

rpmurray: Thank you for your ideas. I believe that my VM is already configured the way you suggest (I had read the User Manual on filters), and I am still having the problem. Please see attached image.

One of the things I've found for the several USB devices I've attached to the guest OSes I've created is that you should enter just enough information to get the filters working. This usually means just the vendor ID and the product ID. For reasons I've been unable to determine, the filters, at least on a Mac host, don't seem to work reliably if you enter all the fields.

Once you've done that, the thing to do is to unplug the USB device, restart the VM and wait until you can see the desktop of the guest, then plug the USB device in and see if the guest grabs it.

Now the Guest OS is grabbing it ... sort of. There is a CD in the drive. I am selecting "Computer" from the left-hand pane, and drives D: and F: do NOT appear underneath it, but DO appear in the right-hand pane. A double-click on drive D: in the right-hand pane produced the error message shown in the attached screen capture.

Looks like a Windows issue at this point. Checking on google I've seen some people suggest trying to disable Windows Media Player to fix it.

It now works. I disabled "Media Center Extender Service" (under Control Panel .. System and Security .. Administrative Tools .. Services).

This issue is completely fixed by 4.3.12. Just go to the USB icon and select "Apple Inc. MacBook Air SuperDrive [0202]" and there is no more "busy with a previous request" error. Instead, the guest O/S (Windows 7) takes control of the drive from Mac OS X and auto-plays the inserted CD-ROM.
